Kelkin Gluten Free Muesli Ingredients

Rice flakes, sultanas, millet flakes, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, linseed, almonds, hazlenuts.

As soon as I saw the ingredients list for Kelkin's gluten free muesli, I was concerned. I've never known millet flakes perform too well without cooking.

So with this in mind, I gave the muesli a soaking for 10 minutes before my first attempt. The first few chews were great, but as the rice flakes were mashed by my molars, I felt the millet beginning to bite.

Within a few more chews I had impacted millet flakes buried in my teeth - as supected, the millet had refused to soften.

Now this was disappointing - we feed the little 'uns with Kelkin gluten free porridge most days and it goes down a treat. I had hoped the muesli would be an alternative now their gnashers are getting a bit more capable.

So I gave the resistant millet another 10 minutes and, joy of joys, this made all the difference. The millet was soft but still firm enough to provide texture, the muesli is sweet without being too sweet, and tasty from the seeds and nuts.

Kelkin Gluten Free Muesli - Summary

Kelkin's muesli is good, but not right away. A minimum of 15 minutes soaking is needed to avoid the millet flakes compaction factor. After that however, it's tasty, filling, has a good texture and is all natural.
